Man dies after swimming in Lake Merritt, Oakland

(LOCAL BAY AREA NEWS) — There has been plenty of videos that surfaced online of people fishing and even taking a dive in Lake Merritt, however what happened most recently is very surprising and quite devastating. At approximately 3pm on June 8th a man was spotted swimming in Oakland’s Lake Merritt, a thing most locals know is a no-no. A witness on the scene quickly pulled out their phone to record the event. “Oh my god, he went under,” they yell and gasp as the man takes his whole head under water among other things.
