Lunaris: A Stargazing Calico

Chamill gawked up at the night sky. The stars glittered with hope, promising the calico of a better future. The lights in the bustling town below rivaled them, but try as it might, it could never replicate the simplistic yet mesmerizing beauty of the sky. Cloudless, numerous constellations in sight, and the full moon reflecting off of Chamill’s coat — -she couldn’t find any reason to dislike the view.

Goodbye to all my neighbors and housemates, for I must join the lone wanderers. Chamill’s playmates were shocked and saddened to hear her decision to leave the household. Some even questioned if she’d had too much catnip, but she was firm on the matter. She had a destiny to fulfill, and it all begins on the boundary between the town and the forest to the north. Perched on a stone wall, she gave one last glimpse at the structures and glowing lamps in the distance.

A searing flash appeared in the sky. Turning to wince up at it, Chamill could see a streak of light sailing across the inky sky. Her eyes followed it as it soared over her, and upon turning around, her face lit up with astonishment. Colors waved and danced against the dark background of the sky. The purples and blues matched the mismatched eye color of Chamill’s and oranges burned as majestically as the patches of her coat, but the spectacle outdid her with the soft hints green. The earth then trembled, as though signaling the beginning of Chamill’s journey.

With her head held high and her fur brushed by the whispering breeze, Chamill raced headlong into the forest in the aurora’s direction. She will not disappoint the spirits.

((Just a really short piece that I wanted to write. I might delve into this idea further in the future, but that’ll require more brainstorming. This is my first post here in Medium, so I hope you enjoyed it!))
