Staking with your Ledger via MetaMask

If you want to stake STMX tokens directly using your Ledger device, the simplest way to do this is by using the MetaMask browser extension, which, in this case, acts as a bridge between the StormX staking app and your hardware wallet.

Note that your STMX tokens are handled by Ledger’s Ethereum App, so you will want to make sure you have this app installed on your Ledger using Ledger Live before sending your STMX tokens to your wallet.

Obtaining Your Ledger Wallet Address (Ethereum)

If you don’t already know your Ethereum wallet address, launch the Ledger Live app, and click Accounts in the navigation panel. If your wallet has ERC-20 tokens, you can expand the account to see which of those tokens are stored in the wallet.

Right-click the Account that contains your STMX tokens, Click Receive and follow the on-screen instructions. Make sure your Ledger hardware wallet is unlocked by entering the pin number or else this step will fail. If that happens, enter the pin on your Ledger device and click Retry.

You now have your Ethereum wallet address. Take note of this, as you will need it in the next step in order to connect your wallet to the MetaMask extension.

First, Connect Your Hardware Wallet. Open the MetaMask extension, and then click your profile icon. This will expand the menu to allow you to connect your Ledger device.

“Connect Your Hardware Wallet” will display as an option upon clicking your account icon in the menu.

Allow MetaMask to connect to your device, and then select the wallet address that contains your STMX tokens. In this case it is the top address. The easy way to know this is to confirm the last 4 characters.

Once you have connected your wallet to MetaMask, click the Assets tab, and you should see any tokens you have stored in your Ledger device.

Now that you have your wallet connected to your browser, head over to the StormX staking app (https://app.stormx.io).

Click “Get Started” on the StormX page. If you don’t already have a wallet connected to the app, you will be provided with several methods to connect your wallet on this page. Click MetaMask under the wallets that support staking. Verify your wallet. This will open the MetaMask extension.

Select the wallet you want to use with StormX

Upon verifying your wallet, you will be directed to the main StormX staking page, where you can see the latest information on your staking amount and total earnings over time.

Enable Blind Signing On Your Ledger Device

At this point, you must ensure that Blind Signing is enabled on your Ledger. This allows the device to sign the smart contract issued by StormX. Turn it back off once you have signed the contract to enhance the security of your device. Follow the tutorial below on Ledger’s support page for more information.

Select Your Staking Amount

As you can see, we currently have 0 tokens staked at the moment. Let’s just select the maximum available in my wallet. As soon as you allocate this amount, either by entering the value or clicking Max, click Stake to proceed.

Confirm Your Stake Through MetaMask

Upon clicking Stake, you will see a MetaMask popup display information about the transaction. There is also a gas fee to stake, but this is typically a very low amount.

Confirm the transaction on MetaMask in your browser, and then subsequently on your Ledger device, where you will need to confirm the transaction at the hardware level. Don’t worry, there is no additional gas fee — it’s the same confirmation across the browser and your wallet.

Now, if all has gone according to plan, you will see a success message within the app. Closing the popup, you should see your updated staking amount, and will begin to see your Weekly Earnings section update in real-time.

You can unstake at any time, but if you unstake before the staking cycle completes, you will not gain any of the STMX accrued, and will need to wait until the next cycle before you can accumulate any more.

Troubleshooting MetaMask

StormX has detected you’re currently connecting with a different wallet

You might encounter this issue above with your wallet. This is more likely to happen if you have several wallets listed in your MetaMask extension. Just make sure you have selected the wallet you want to Stake with. Confirm this by looking out for the green checkmark next to the wallet name.

Ensure the active wallet is connected to the StormX Staking website
