Q: How do you get the word out in a community about a great cause that could use some help, say a potentially tax deductible $500 donation, that would accomplish three things?

First the back story: This is an effort to establish a permanent Scholarship in Stark County, Ohio for those living and/or working in the community (aka Canton, Massillon, Alliance and surrounding area) to attend schools of “higher learning” in the tech space in Northeast Ohio. Not only for use at colleges and universities but for accredited tech “boot camps” that seek to build a skill set that results in gainful employment in the tech space.

Furthermore, often these boot camps take 10 to 12 weeks complete and area employers offer guarantees of employment at the end of the class for the top students. But that is getting slightly ahead of ourselves. First things, first.

“What are the three things?”

  1. This is an effort to keep talented people right here in the area [during and] after high school
  2. Employers in the area are having trouble filling tech positions with great talent… and it isn’t just about wages and benefits
  3. This grassroots effort is a very visible sign that the local tech community is willing and able to step up and make a difference for itself and Stark County

There are numerous “good works” afoot, yet this effort to raise twenty-five thousand dollars for an irrevocable scholarship beginning but in no way limited to our base of some 180+ entrepreneurs, business owners, and tech employees of local and remote companies and organizations could have major ramifications in the ecosystem of startups across America. Yes. Maybe even globally.

How so?

Have you read [or experienced] the exodus of talent from Silicon Valley in the last year or so? Or have you seen well known VCs begin to focus and create a variety of Seed Funds for efforts “in the middle of the country” [i.e. not in NYC or Silicon Valley]? Perhaps you have seen “techies” return to their roots in the mid-west where certain values are still revered?

This effort, aka theFUND, could become a very big deal including awarding two or more scholarships as early as Fall 2019. Unheard of, right? Not when you exploit the constraints that stop otherwise well meaning folks.

So, back to the $25,000 question? How do you get the word out?

The short answer: Every way imaginable!
