I think it is fairly well known that people doing complicated work are best left alone and not distracted. The question then arises as to why managements impose horrors like the Open Office on people doing that kind of work. At one place of business, I did some research into the issue by questioning management. The lower layers of management were in agreement with me and attributed the misdesign to higher layers of management. The higher layers of management exercised their skills at obfuscation, so this might be an interesting area of inquiry if one had the ability to overcome the resistance. I take it something political is going on. Meanwhile the poor front-line worker needs a baseball hat or eyeshade and earphones.
