How Your Data is Stored, or, The Laws of the Imaginary Greeks
Yonatan Zunger

I wish I’d had this essay at hand many years ago when I had to explain to business executives why ‘distributed computing’ and ‘distributed data storage’ were not simple matters, especially when money was involved. They would not have read it through, of course, but after the first quarter or third they’d probably have gotten a clue, at least more rapidly than using the more traditional methods (meetings; more meetings; writings on the blackboard/whiteboard; flying in expensive consultants; etc.)
