Juggling 3 children and a business is pretty impressive — Dahlia shares her startup story and tells us how she tries to find the balance.

Tell us about Entreprenursery.
Entreprenursery is a coworking space for parents. In essence parents can work in my space, network and attend one of our many workshops as well bring their children— all under one roof!

What inspired you to start your own business?
I’ve always wanted to have my own business. When I was 19 I asked my parents to help me so I could open a juice bar in an empty shop on our high street. They laughed at me but I could have been Joe & the Juice! Fast forward a few years and I had 3 little ones, my youngest was one and still at home with me. I was freelancing and I had a nanny. I had a good set up, but I kept getting interrupted and I really craved adult conversation. I felt like my breaks were around when my daughter needed me or barged in on a call I was on rather than those coffee break chats.

How did you turn your idea into a reality?
I started looking around for a coworking space with a creche and came across Third Door. At that time I was thinking of opening a coffee shop with a play area business, but after networking and doing a few courses and interviewing a few potential customers, I realised that there was a real need in my local area for a coworking space with a creche. So I did it slowly, but now I am in the testing phase, playing around with different setups, timings, and getting feedback from my customers. It’s been such fun and so rewarding!

What is the most challenging aspect of running your own business?
Letting people know about what I’m doing. I know everyone gets inundated with newsletters, emails, and social media — so I try to really stand out and be a one stop solution for working families. I also feel I’m missing out as I don’t have a co-founder, I’d love to have a like-minded person to bounce ideas off with and share some of the workload and decisions.

What do you enjoy most about working for yourself?
The flexibility I have and the amazing people I have met! I’m learning every day and I love what I do!

What’s your secret to balancing a growing business while raising a family?
I try to stay organised. I don’t have the perfect balance yet, but I do try to not work when the children are around. I work when they are sleeping or napping or when they are at school. I like that I don’t have to answer to anyone and I can work around the kids, but it means I’m constantly on the go!

What are your top tips for getting the most from a coworking environment?
The best thing about a coworking space is meeting people and exchanging ideas, contacts and collaborating — I call it Magic.

What’s next for Entreprenursery?
What’s next? Lots of ideas in my head. I’m having conversations with people about collaborations and I have other ideas in my head. All are too early to share ….but watch this space! 😊
