On May 9th, Mercure will pass between the Earth and the Sun, making it visible as a small black dot on the solar surface. Murcury transits are very rare and happen only about 13 times per century.
This transit will start 7:20 a.m. EDT and continue till 2:42 p.m. To view this event safely you will need a telescope or high-powered binoculars fitted with solar filters made of specially-coated glass or Mylar.
Live coverage will be available on NASA website: http://www.nasa.gov/transit
