Why Business Should Move to Kubernetes Now
“Containers” have taken the world of Information Technology by storm in the last few years. With Docker taking the forefront of this disruptive change, developers have embraced this new way of building distributed applications. Kubernetes, however, has become the container orchestrator of choice. Developed by Google and Red-Hat and over 1000 contributors, Kubernetes helps manage containers like Docker at scale and in a fault resilient manner.
So what does this mean, and why should businesses move to Kubernetes? Because Kubernetes is essentially the future of cloud hosting, and will ultimately be the choice of use for it as most businesses use Linux servers. Kubernetes helps manage a cluster of containers. While it currently only supports Docker for containers, Kubernetes expected to support other container solutions. All you have to do is tell it what you need it to do, and voila! it does the rest of the tedious work for you using its built in support for microservices, load balancing, etc.
What makes Kubernetes so special? First of all, its API (Application Program Interface) provides users with immense flexibility. Kubernetes can be integrated into servers, and infrastructure providers can implement Kubernetes on top of their infrastructure with little to no effort. Not only is it supported by the top players in the technology business including Google, IBM, and Microsoft but best of all its an open technology which means no proprietary lock-in.
Still don’t fully understand what this all means? We get it! Navigating the web for a basic breakdown of Kubernetes isn’t easy. Trust me, we tried to decipher the technical jibber-jabber sprawled across seemingly never-ending Kubernetes articles, too. Unless you have some familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes, I’m willing to bet you won’t understand the power of these technologies as well as you might like.
If only a “Kubernetes for Dummies” existed out there. Oh wait, it does.
To better help you comprehend the basics of this not-so-basic container technology, we’ve set up a free hour-long webinar program on Docker and Kubernetes: The World of Containers led by an a world-leading expert in the field, Sebastien Goasguen. In this webinar, Sebastien will introduce Docker and the more broader container movement, explain what it is disrupting the IT application landscape and show how and why Kubernetes is seen as the leading system to manage containers in the data center.
