Exactly. Structures and methods used by one culture to ‘get it right’ when assessing another is unsurprisingly imperfect. Perhaps you looked ‘too white’? (Good old blood quanta!)

I take your point that the seamstress didn’t have a hostile intent, although when it comes to systems which aren’t overtly racist (like apartheid policies) I actually don’t make much distinction between racism and discrimination.
