Months of learning for the Coursera Interaction Design Specialization, could finally be put together in The Capstone Project.

Starting with 3 design briefs, I choose the brief to attempt to change insight on our view of time. Here is the process of the evolving design.

Point of View

Agendas and calendars have been used for ages. Still the paper agenda has an attraction. The “old” skill of handwriting still survives in the digital age. By studying people in what drives them to still use a paper agenda instead of an electronic one, we can improve the digital agenda experience by introducing more paper agenda experiences. Improving the digital agenda experience will improve user’s experience and interact with time.

Setting

After some brainstorming I decided to attempt to replace the paper agenda with an electronic agenda. I wanted to make a more personal version of Google Agenda, by adding options to add pictures and photographs.

After feedback about the visual space being too crowded, I removed some of the functionality from the view.

This still provided too little space for appointments, so I switched from a portrait style to a landscape style of the screen and attempted to simulate rotation of the screen in InVision.

But InVision does not support rotation very well. The user testing phase also showed that. So I removed the rotation. When converting the prototype to a real app, I will retry implementing the rotation functionality.

Current version

Now the proto looks like this:

The prototype is still not colorized, because I wanted to keep the focus on the navigation and use.
When designing for color I will use the following picture for inspiration.

More work will require a functional app on an Android smart phone. In that environment I can more experiment with gestures and rotation.
