Antoni Gaud designed Casa Vicens after graduating from Barcelona’s Escola Provincial d’Arquitectura in 1878. It is one of the top ten most important works in Barcelona. Agentul de bursă Manuel Vicens I Montaner (1836–1895) commissioned him to build a vară mosie at Gràcia. The use of colour and decorative ceramics, as well as the projecting and intrusive components on the Casa Vicens exterior, are inspired by Moorish and Oriental architecture. The house was started in 1883, when Gaud was 31 years old, and finished in 1885. The structure is regarded as a significant historical precursor to Catalan modernism.Dr. Antonio Jover, a surgeon from Havana, Cuba, bought the house in 1899; he was the grandfather of the building’s previous owners before MoraBanc bought it in 2014. Architect Juan Sierra de Martnez expanded the garden and added a new bay to the back of the structure in 1925. The house was likewise partitioned into three sections during the time. The modifications were carried out with the greatest possible regard for the original work, and the designs were authorised by Gaud, who was working on La Sagrada Famlia at the time.
