East Cowes, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom’s Osborne House is a former royal house. No journey to the Isle of Wight would be complete without a stop at Osborne House in East Cowes, where Queen Victoria lived with her beloved Prince Albert and their nine children. The royal suites’ magnificence astounds us, particularly the opulent dining rooms and the ornately furnished Indian-inspired Durbar Room. The view from the terraces across the Solent, which Prince Albert is reputed to have compared to the Gulf of Naples, is breathtaking. The underlying tale of life as a Victorian royal child is explored at Swiss Cottage.New live displays, a garden trail, and a new playground, thanks to donor money, including the Heritage Lottery Fund, allow families to see how Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s children played and learnt in this unique and wonderful site. In the “Childhood at Osborne” exhibition, learn about the hobbies and characteristics of each of Queen Victoria’s nine children, play where the royal children played, and travel back in time to 1861, when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert join the royal children for afternoon tea. At the Museum, you may explore wonderful artefacts from the Royal Collection from throughout the world…
