Few places can match the extravagance of the Palais Garnier, 10 Place de l’Opéra, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. The 1979 Opera House is the most magnificent building built in the modern era.This magnificent work of art, completed in just 15 years between 1861 and 1875, features extraordinary detail and sophisticated furniture and is arguably the world’s most famous opera. The interiors’ unsurpassed opulence, complete with gleaming chandeliers, lofty columns, gilded walls, and architectural features, will take your breath away. It was the most expensive edifice constructed in Paris during the Second Empire, as evidenced by every detail and polish.
The Phantom of the Opera, written by Gaston Leroux in 1910, is set in the Palais Garnier.

After surviving an attempted assassination outside the existing Opera House, Napoleon III commissioned plans for a larger, more permanent structure with a safer entry for the nobility.
