The Creative’s Mantra

Waking up to a clear direction and my purpose as a writer.

I believe in my art.
I believe in my words.
I believe I can make a difference in my life and in other people’s lives.

I fill my life with colour,
Books and clouds and raindrops.
I fill my life with stories, journeys, and connections.
I fill my life with bravery, strength, and will.
I fill my life with my art.

I need to move forward from fear.
I need to face my demons and push them all aside, though they will hurt and hurt others.
I need to face rejection, criticism, and lack of support.
I need to accept being ignored.

I need to listen to my heart’s words before others.
I need to speak, to cry when my chest is heavy with wounds.
I need to be brave to bare my body, to place myself in front of other people.

I have to work.
I have to wake up, breathe, stand, and walk my path.
I have to make mistakes to learn.
I have to stop waiting for the “right” moment—there is no such thing.

I have to live.
I will live.
I now live my art.
