Let’s talk about legends for a second. People who helped shape the music industry to where it is today. Artists who influenced other inspiring artists to pursue their dreams. Songs that were released decades ago but are still widely popular today. Those are legends, and Freddie Mercury is one of the most important, popular, looked up to artist in the world still decades after his death.

On the day of his birth, I decided it would only be right to talk about this flamboyant king. Lead singer of Queen, Freddie inspired millions of inspiring artists to be who they want to be and to make music they love. Bohemian Rhapsody, the bands most popular song was released in 1975. NINETEEN SEVENTY FIVE and my 16 year old brother knows every lyric. I think thats so freaking awesome for music to be able to captivate audiences for years and years.

When I was younger, Bohemian Rhapsody was that song that reminded me of ‘figaro’ from the opera, The Barber of Seville. It was the longest song I had ever listened to, besides American Pie, and it was the song that confused me so much, but I always loved it. Now, after actually listening to the lyrics I know it was and still is so much more than that. Essentially, from my interpretation, it was his ‘coming out’ song. A song with no chorus at all and with the meaning behind it, becoming so popular from the start shows that music is more powerful than we could ever imagine.

If you’re a sports fan, the song We Are The Champions is a signature anthem. Another song written by Freddie, We Are The Champions, gives off the most incredible feeling, success and happiness. I’ve never been to any sports game where the home team hasn’t won and them not playing this song at the end. Another insanely iconic song added to their list.

Freddie Mercury was a lyrical genius that gave the world songs like Somebody To Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, Under Pressure, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and so much more! When his life sadly ended after being sick with Pneumonia which was caused from complications from AIDS, his legacy did not die with him.

Apart from his stage persona and the songs he wrote, Mercury’s voice was a sound that stood out from all the rest. His voice was so recognizable that a person would be able to pick it out from a crowd. The tenor in is singing voice delivered songs and notes that was only possible for Freddie Mercury. He performed with such ease and happiness every night he had a concert.

Being so jealous of every single person who had the privilege to see him live, I was so excited to find out that a feature length film would be coming out in his honor. The film, Bohemian Rhapsody, is in theaters December 2018.

Happy 72nd Birthday Freddie! Hope you are having a ball up there!

All the love …
