Hate to say it, but… This is FAKE NEWS. Little substance to this piece. Another sad attempt to further perpetuate unproductive political polarization. Modern issues, such as climate change are technical, not political. Relying upon the increasingly irrelevant political institutions to solve them is just false hope…. Politicians turn these issues into tools to push agendas, gain wealth and influence, and waste taxpayer dollars. Media basically the same, click bait.
Also, is that survey a joke? I would be more concerned about the 1/3 of people who asked a broker and took the response seriously. Have you ever met a south FL real estate broker? I wouldn't even ask them what time is it, let alone their personal opinion on how climate change would affect a particular property. Especially considering they have motivation to just get the sale done… You do realize accessing flood risk is part of both the inspection and financing process. Most of Coastal Miami/Miami Beach is in a FEMA flood zone. If financing the purchase, by the time you close three separate flood assessments have been independently made… If it’s a new structure you’ll face tough zoning laws. Bit more reliable then my part-time bar tending broker’s opinion.
“The disintegration of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets is speeding up”
Greenland just recorded the coldest July temperature reading in the northern hemisphere, ever…. Antarctic Ice sheet has grown for three years now. Passages used by exploratory ships in the 1950s are now solid ice. According to data arctic ice has receded. Best of all, recent NASA data show’s that sea levels have declined for two straight years. Attributed to record global snow fall and rain that as resulted in more water being stored on land. I was literally skiing in California 2 weeks ago, Mammoth Mountain is open to skiing until 8/6! Sea level rise in Miami over the last two decades is the equivalent to the thickness of two nickles. There is more of an issue with coastal land sinking from development then from sea rise, the entire south east coast of FL is a sand bar…. Look at the buildings on Brickell key, they are spending millions because the building are sinking into their own foundations. Sea level rise or not, a Cat 5 hurricane pushing a 10 foot storm surge should be regarded as the true threat.
Human’s action certainly negatively affects the environment. But climate change and the Earth for that matter are far beyond control. One volcanic eruption or a sun spot can change weather and temperatures on earth for years.
