I love your opening sentence. It really grabbed my attention and showed me that you are willing to speak your truth. I have spent many sleepless nights, my mind heavy after researching the onslaught of the ongoing devastation.

The nightly news needs to have a rolling feed of the species that are sent into the jaws of extinction so that we can be reminded of reality.

But the reality is that humans are not wired to think on a scale beyond their own lives, nor in a location different from their own. Most of us can barely eek out a decent living, most are stressed and stretching themselves beyond what is humanly possible. This reality does not make for an environment of massive change, the kind we desperately need.

I wrote a story about a future world. I haven’t fleshed out the ideas but I came up with some solutions that may be of interest to you.

Here’s the beginning of the story:

SOLAR GIRL STELLA

It is the year 2050 and life is pretty much the same as 15 years earlier, but the days are hotter and the earth feels a little more crowded. The world is changing in big ways but very few people know what is happening. The only one who knows exactly what is happening is the sun. The sun watches as CEOs maintain giant, earth-destroying chemical, energy and decay companies. The sun watches as the chemicals from these giant corporations wipe out bees and other small voiceless creatures.

The sun can see and hear the animals, birds, fish and insects cry every day and night. The sun watches helplessly as the last of the bluefin tuna swims into a fisherman’s death net, tries to swim free, but finally collapses from exhaustion into the dark jaws of extinction. While all this subtle destruction is going on, most people on earth have formed a close bond with a tiny, bright and friendly screen. The screens entertain people in so many ways that many become dependent upon them for their happiness and well-being. Even though there are signs that all is not well with the earth, most people simply turn to their screens in order to distract their minds from learning the harsh realities of extinction, destruction and suffering. The screens are programmed to connect human happiness with denial of reality.

If you’d like to read the entire story, here it is.

At this point, I have so many ideas and no resources to put them into reality. Perhaps you might know someone who’d like to undertake this idea. I have little attachment to it or ability to take this on by myself.

Thank you for your insightful article. The world needs more humans like yourself.

And in closing:

“I have researched the magic shapes of the happiness no one escapes.”
