“ It’s time that society starts acknowledging us as complex individuals with a wide range of interests, none of which dictate whether we are smart or dumb and good or bad.”
I’ve struggled with this my whole fucking life! I started out as a high fashion model, then for the rest of my life, I felt like denying it, covering it up, pretending it wasn’t a part of me. I’ve always had a natural affinity for science, and all sorts of interests, and it is only in middle-age that I’ve come to many of the same conclusions as you. I let my daughter experiment with whatever she likes, whether it be dolls, science, cute stuff, and in fact, we do all kinds of creative stuff like painting barbies, dressing up soldiers, whatever. I let her be free to decide. Having the freedom to decide is what’s important. I’m undoing all the patriarchal programming that has ruined so many people, especially girls and women……Your voice is so strong! I am really happy I found your writing. Great, just great.
