Solar-Powered Super Hero Doll For Girls: One of My Many Business Ideas

I was listening to Altucher and Dubner’s podcast, Question of the Day, and in one episode, they asked the listeners to submit one idea they had developed in secret. This is my answer.

I submitted my idea to a Kansas City incubator, Betablox, and was surprised when they responded positively to it. The guy I met with made it very clear that he didn’t dish out BS, and that my idea was actually pretty good. However, he told me I needed to build a prototype before they accepted it into their program.

This is where I got stuck. I tried to find solar technologists so I could figure out how to make the skin, but I got distracted by things like making enough money to eat, etc. But, let me explain my idea.

A few years ago, I realized that girls need superhero dolls. This was before I heard that DC Superhero Girls were being created. They will be released to stores soon.

Anyway, I conceived of a superhero doll for girls that has solar skin, meaning that she can collect solar energy through her skin. The energy can be stored inside her brain and can be used for charging devices like cars and electronics.

The story of her genesis came to me one day. It was really weird because the story just unfolded without my conscious awareness. It was more like I was being told the story. I guess this happens to writers and people who make up stuff.

Here’s the genesis story of Solar Girl Stella:

It is the year 2050 and life is pretty much the same as 15 years earlier, but the days are hotter and the earth feels a little more crowded. The world is changing in big ways but very few people know what is happening. The only one who knows exactly what is happening is the sun. The sun watches as CEOs maintain giant, earth-destroying chemical, energy and decay companies. The sun watches as the chemicals from these giant corporations wipe out bees and other small voiceless creatures. The sun can see and hear the animals, birds, fish and insects cry every day and night. The sun watches helplessly as the last of the bluefin tuna swims into a fisherman’s death net, tries to swim free, but finally collapses from exhaustion into the dark jaws of extinction. While all this subtle destruction is going on, most people on earth have formed a close bond with a tiny, bright and friendly screen. The screens entertain people in so many ways that many become dependent upon them for their happiness and well-being. Even though there are signs that all is not well with the earth, most people simply turn to their screens in order to distract their minds from learning the harsh realities of extinction, destruction and suffering. The screens are owned and operated by the same people who are actively destroying the earth. The screens are programmed to connect human happiness with denial of reality.

But the sun also notices the emergence of a new kind of human. These humans have forsaken their inborn biological programming and have embraced a consciousness that is focused on long-term survival of the species.

These humans are driven by a desire to preserve life on earth. They know the truth about the ongoing extinctions and they are determined to create solutions with solar power to fix these problems. But these humans are vastly outnumbered by the screen people who live in an alternate digital world that has become divorced from nature.

The sun knows time is running out. The creatures on earth are dying. If something doesn’t change, it will be too late and all life on earth will be wiped out. The sun realizes it has to find a young child whose mind hasn’t been warped too much by the screens. This child will be given superpowers to save the earth’s creatures and humanity itself.

A Scene From Solar Girl Stella’s World:

The screens at school taught Stella and her classmates everything. The screens were fun at first, but like all things, they became boring after a while. Stella wondered if there was any way to change the programs inside the screens. One day when everyone else went outside for recess, she decided to stay inside and play with the screens. She noticed the screws that held a panel on the side were loose. She removed the screws and the panel came off. She saw some buttons which she began pushing to see what would happen. She was amazed to discover that by pushing the buttons, she could change what was on the screen.

She found new shows that she had never seen before. She flipped through the shows and finally settled on one that was interesting to her: a young girl talking to a group of adults on a channel called YouTube. The show was called The Girl Who Silenced The World for 5 Minutes. Stella had never seen a young girl speak in front of so many adults before.

The girl said, “I’m fighting for my future. I am here to speak for all generations to come. And now we hear of animals and plants going extinct every day, vanishing forever. In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals, jungles and rainforests full of birds and butterflies, but now i wonder if they will even exist for my children to see. All of this is happening before our eyes and yet we act as if we have all the time we want and all the solutions. I am only a child and I don’t have all the solutions. But I want you to realize neither do you. You don’t know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer, you don’t know how to bring the salmon back up a dead stream. If you don’t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it. I’m only a child yet I know we are all in this together and should act as one single world towards one single goal. In my anger, I am not blind, and in my fear, I am not afraid of telling the world how I feel.”

After watching the video countless times, and finally coming to understand the complex message of the girl, Stella went outside to think. She felt that she must do something to help that girl save the creatures of the world, but did not know where to turn. She too, wanted her future children to see the great herds, the jungles and rainforests. She was upset to learn that they were being wiped out right before her eyes, and in her time. She felt cheated that no one had told her what’s happening to her planet. Why had her teachers never mentioned any of this? Why was this not on the screens and why weren’t her parents telling her about it? The questions kept coming.

She started to feel anger, pain and sadness. With her new knowledge she had a fleeting and scary vision of a future world where the only animals that remained on planet earth were the ones kept in zoos. She imagined people hand-pollinating the crops because the bees had all been killed off. A shudder went up and down her spine and fear gripped her heart.

She looked up in the sky towards the sun as tears streamed down her face. She had never looked directly at the sun before. To Stella’s astonishment, a face appeared in the sun’s interior and to her shock, the sun began talking to Stella, “You have found the truth today through the message of Severn Cullis-Suzuki. The creatures of earth are in trouble. I see and hear their cries, all over the planet, every day. I see what is happening on every continent, in every country, in all the seas and in every town and village. The bad guys on earth are destroying the whales, sea lions, frogs, turtles, lions, cheetahs, wolves, dolphins and the bees and every living creature. These bad guys drink and eat greed soup morning, noon and night. They control giant powerful corporations that are responsible for killing creatures and making them go extinct. These bad guys have separated themselves from me, from nature and think they are not connected to the creatures they destroy. But once the creatures have vanished from earth, the humans will follow, leading them to become extinct, too. Humans cannot exist without the natural ecosystem. I have been searching many years for a child with a bright mind a big heart and I have chosen you. Your new name will be Solar Girl Stella. Your mission is to save the creatures of earth, thereby, ensuring that generations to come will have a healthy life, full of the wonders of nature. This mission will involve dismantling the evil corporate forces that are killing the creatures on planet earth. It will also involve you leading the human population towards implementing new technologies in solar power and renewable energy. I will give you special powers to save the creatures and transform these giant corporations from destructive forces into helpful ones. Your skin cells will become solar cells, capable of absorbing and converting my sunlight into flight fuel.

You will also be able to power your cars and phones with my energy. You will be able to fly at the speed of light during daylight hours. You will be given a lifetime supply of zombie powder in order to de-program the minds of the most evil corporate CEOs. This will not be an easy task and the risks are great. These earth-destroying corporations are powerful and they will do anything to continue their existence. They are addicted to the mind-altering drug, Greed, and they will literally take down the entire human race in order to feed their addiction. But I will be there to help you and once the creatures of earth understand you are going to save them, they will become your loyal allies. The only thing you must be careful about is darkness. Your gadgets will be powered, but you will not have the ability to fly at night. You will be vulnerable when I am not shining.”

So, this is my business idea. Let me know if I should go for it. By the way, if you’re a solar technologist or know how to create solar cell fabrics/skin, contact me at [email protected] Thank you.
