Chromia vault to Chain of Alliance
About
Chain of Alliance is an auto battler game which runs completely on blockchain. You play this multiplayer strategy game with up to eight players. Each round you get matched against a random opponent. To win, you can buy characters out of the six you are offered each round. The principle is easy, you place your best team on your gamefield and let them automatically battle against your opponent. But to win, you have to find the right strategy to place characters with fitting synergies and items at the right positions.
Blockchain and Chain of Alliance
The game will be completely deployed on Postchain. There is no and will never be a central instance. That means we had to find a way to balance the stats of characters and synergies without redeploying the game on a new chain. To solve this problem, we came up with the governance system. This system allows the community to create and vote on proposals to balance the game. In order to vote and create proposals, the users have to play and earn governance tokens, which will be awarded after each game. These can be used to take part in the balancing process. One day per week, users will be able to create new proposals. The rest of the week you can vote on the created proposals. In order for a proposal to pass, it has to be approved from at least 51% of the users which have played during the voting phase. If you don‘t like the proposal, you can also down vote it to not let it pass. With this system we try to give the game to the community. Once the game is launched, it will be yours. It wouldn‘t be a blockchain game without tokens. Once we officially deploy the game, you will be able to transfer tokens from your Chromia vault to Chain of Alliance. With these tokens, you will be able to start tournaments with varying buy-ins. All placed tokens will be collected as prize money and, at the end, distributed depending on your placement. Another way to use these tokens is to buy cosmetic items. More specific, you will be able to customize your avatar. But more information about that at a later time.
Monetization
The game will always be free to play and there will be no purchasable content which will benefit in battle. A small cut of the prize money from tournaments will be kept for the dev fund. Also, all tokens used to buy cosmetic items will be added to the dev fund. But to keep the game more interesting and rewarding, a portion of the dev fund will be dropable during free games. This means that you have a chance to drop CoA tokens while playing the game for free!
Deploying phases
Since this is one of the first games to be deployed on Chromias plattform, we will be one of the first to determine the scalability of it. The official whitepaper states, that the platform will support 500 transactions per second per sidechain. With our current implementation, we could support about 60 games simultaneously per sidechain. This game will be a good measurement to determine the true power of the platform and how high we can push this number. But even if we hit a ceiling, we have the opportunity to scale over multiple sidechains. The way the game is implemented in (and because of) Rell, a multichain solution is trivially easy. Because of this pioneering work, we plan to divide the deployment in three steps: First, an alpha version will be released. It consists of only one test node which will be run in a cloud. This way we can exactly determine how well the platform will scale with our game. This phase will be started at the 12th of January for the Chromia alpha testing group. Second, a beta version will be deployed on the main net. This step will give us more information how the game performs on the network it will later live on. It will give us a feeling on what the timing constraints are. As you may have noticed in the explanation of the genre, the game is somewhat time constrained in order to be entertaining. This phase will be started in early Q2 of 2020. Last, but not least, the game will be fully deployed on the Chromia platform. With this step we lose ownership of the game and give it to the community. We only keep an account with special rights to create new announcements and push version numbers for you to notice an update in the client. If you don‘t like the new update, you can play the old version since it will always be running. New versions will have to be pushed for new characters/items/synergies or other content. This phase will be started once we are comfortable with the results of phase two.
Auto battler genre
This section is for people who have never heard of the auto battler genre before. The phases of the game will be used to explain the different steps of the game. SEARCHING: The game will be played with up to eight players. In the first phase of deployment (see Deploying steps), a game will also start when you have more than four players in a lobby after 60 seconds. This is to prevent long wait times. Later, a game will only start when there are 8 players in a lobby. Once the game starts, a character pool is created. The players will get their offered characters out of this shared pool. This means once a character is bought, it is locked for the other players. It will be put back in the pool though once it is sold. PREPARING: In this phase you will prepare your gamefield for the next battle. You will get a new offer of six characters. Their cost is displayed in the lower right cornerof the offer and their synergies are visible on the lower left site. The bought character can then be placed on your gamefield. The amount of characters you can place on your gamefield is limited by your level. The level is displayed over you avatar, or you can see how many characters you have on your field on the right part of the top bar. Each character have synergies which give all characters of the same synergy bonus stats. This means, the more characters of the same synergy you have on your gamefield, the higher the stat boost is for this synergy class. Other than buying characters, you can also buy a reroll which gives you a new offer, or buy exp to level up and place more characters on your field. Once you have bought three characters of the same type, it will rank up and become more powerful. FIGHTING: You get either matched with a random opponent or fight against mobs, which drop items. Their squad will automatically battle against your squad. The remaining characters at the end of the fight do damage to the player himself. He starts with 100 health. Once it hits zero, he loses. During this phase you may also buy rerolls, exp or new characters. But you can not place them on the gamefield during this stage. At the end of the fight you get rewarded with some exp and gold.
So we are waiting for the release of the game, so that we could later test it and evaluate it.
