That is appalling to hear what those specific Republican politicians are alleged to have done in the past and certainly merits further serious questioning of their personal history on abortion. However, that is just three out of hundreds of congressmen and we do not seem to know if they have apologised for their past actions (or indeed if the claims made against them are true). Plus, we should remember that these situations would have unfolded in an environment where abortion was an easily available, socially acceptable and legally-mandated option. Would they have made the same choice if abortion was clearly decreed to be morally repugnant by our culture?
You seem to also make a wild leap from the Republican parties consistent opposition to abortion over many years now to suppositions about how this must be economically motivated, a tool to oppress the poor, rather than a principled stand against an evil. Where is the leaked memo where this strategy is outlined or the whistleblower who expose this alleged hypocrisy?
On the other hand, we do have the powerful testimony of the likes of Abby Johnson or David Daleiden, both of whom have shone a light on the ruthless exploitation of women seeking abortions, who are cash cows for the “Planned Parenthood” industry. The New York Times also ran a full-page advert in mid-June 2019, organized by the pro-abortion lobby and signed by the CEOs of hundreds of companies, saying that legal protections for unborn babies are ‘bad for business.’ Quite rightly one Republican politician asked, “How disgusting is that?… Caring for a little baby is ‘bad for business’.”
Senator Tom Cotton went on to cite the example of the company &Pizza, whose CEO signed that pro-abortion New York Times ad, as a “perfect example” of this mindset: “&Pizza doesn’t even offer paid maternity leave to its employees — but it does celebrate their ‘oneness’ and ‘individuality’. It’ll even pay employees to get a tattoo of the company logo. So if you want to be a walking billboard for your employer, &Pizza will foot the bill. But if you’re pregnant with a child, tough luck.”
What about the likes of Disney and other movie-makers, quick to boycott Georgia because of their recent pro-life laws but happy to continue luctrative partnerships with Egypt (where abortions are illegal) or China (where millions of Muslims are imprisoned in internment camps or “gulags”)?
Predatory capitalism comes in many different guises.
