This seems unlikely. Putin raised through the ranks during the Cold War in the security and intelligence sector (working for over a decade in the KGB).

The Soviet-era philosophy was one of communist-expansionism, with an emphasis on reclaiming Russia's historical status as an empire, hence the invasion of and occupation of Eastern European satellite states. It isn't a jump to assume that decades of leading under this philosophy has shaped Putin's thinking.

Not to mention is self-declared motive of fighting the rise of Nazis in Ukraine being questionable.
