One Quick Rant
Let’s all take a step back for a second to look at the big picture of what is happening right now in our American politics. I should preface with the following: I know next to nothing about Washington or our political system. I read the news, I watch the debates, I have a brain, but I know very little about its inner-workings and how it interacts with, influences, and is influenced by the general populace. But you know how I know it’s broken? I know this because the Republican candidate for President in the 2016 election is a self-absorbed, megalomaniac, lying, xenophobic, misogynistic (should I go on…?) piece of entitled, blathering pigshit who is preying on the fears of some otherwise good people, and some secretly ugly ones. The system *must* be broken if he has gotten this far.
But do not for a second, fine people who have gotten Trump this far, think that Hillary created the system. And I, for one, would rather stage a goddamn coup and try my hand at fixing the stupid thing myself (no thanks) than even so much as have one passing thought about voting for such a steaming pile of hot garbage. We should be so lucky that, after everything she’s seen, and all the unimaginable bullshit she’s been through, that Hillary even *wants* the goddamn job. That she doesn’t just say, “alright you guys, you know what, go fuck yourselves. I’m going home.”
I know I would.
Hillary is not going to fix what is broken in our politics. Bernie Sanders wouldn’t have either, although perhaps he might have gotten closer. But if you for one second believe that Donald Trump is going to fix Washington in the ways it needs to be fixed, I am truly sorry. I am sorry that your opinion of Washington has sunk so low that you allow yourself to champion someone who openly, without regard or remorse, brags about sexually assaulting women. I am sorry that your mistrust of anyone not like you has made you feel that taking in Syrian refugees threatens your very existence. I am sorry that, somewhere along the way, you rejected facts, expertise, and preparedness as too “insidery,” instead favoring grandiose generalities, fear-mongering, and the most blatant display of smug, menacing idiocy I have ever seen on a serious political stage. I am sorry that you’ve come to think that Donald Trump gives a shit about you. I am sorry that our country seems to have let you down *that* much.
I wasn’t a Hillary fan in 2008. In fact, I voted for Bernie in the primary this time around. But, she will be a fine President. And this November, I will be proud to watch my country elect a qualified, hard-working, experienced public servant as our next President. And a woman to boot. And I will take sick pleasure in watching Trump’s face get more and more orange, nose scrunched and lips pursed, failing more and more to put coherent sentences together, as he realizes that America is rejecting him, just as he takes sick pleasure in grabbing unsuspecting women by the genitals. It won’t ultimately change him, defeat. Men like Trump are impervious to all sorts of rejection, and he will probably spend the rest of his days building more shitty buildings and finding more tax loopholes (as Hillary tries to close them all) and fondling models (no fatties) until his heart’s content.
Fine. Let him. But let’s leave the real work to the grownups.
