Yes, my glaring error did undermine my argument. Unlike the author, I am happy to admit my mistake. As for it being mean, recent educational research about the ill effects of permissive parenting does a pretty good job of supporting my claim. Obviously, not all millennials experienced such parenting but it was/is certainly a trend with very problematic outcomes.
