Week 8 was quite confusing with the whole COVID-19 outbreak here in New York, and also it was Spring Break, so I decided to take some time off — which brings us to week 9: propositional prototyping.

After the ideation from the group sketch sessions, I had so many solutions i wanted to test out. But the first step was to make a mind map of the main components of my app, which are:

  1. Notifications
  2. Recording/Journaling
  3. Dream Feed (to read other’s dreams)
  4. Dictionary of Symbols
  5. Calendar
  6. Profile

I began to sketch by hand first to plan out my prototypes.

How will the user get to the app upon turning of their alarm? Would push notifications pop up? or would they manually need to go to the app and record/type their dreams?

Would journaling dreams be as straightforward as just writing/recording them? Or would the app ask more detailed questions concerning emotional moods or dream clarity?

What details of others’ dreams would show? Would users have access to only their contacts’ content? Or everybody online? Would dreams be displayed by text snippets or through visuals?

What format should the dictionary take? Text-based list or visual grid?

Would a calendar help the user keep a more accurate record of the number of dreams? How necessary is it?

What should the user’s dream profile include? Should it also lead to the dream journal? Should the main navigational items be present always at the bottom or through a burger menu?

After sketching out all my ideas on pen and paper, I made low fidelity protoypes.

And that’s a wrap for Week 9!
