How long until human beings become extinct?

As the books “The 6th Extinction” (two of the three books are relevant) indicate, the human race is in big trouble. Perhaps it won’t be a loss to the biosphere (not to mention the universe as a whole) if the human race destroys itself. Intelligence (or whatever it is we use to describe ourselves) is not an evolutionary advantage.
