I am 74 years old, a USA born atheist Jew.
I was a teacher in the second most dangerous high school in Seattle, Washington, USA. About 1970–1972.
It was also the most diverse school in Washington state.
The first thing to understand is that Homo sapiens are the most dangerous animals on planet earth. I would not like to go one on one against a grizzly bear (which I have seen while hiking in the woods, and quickly and quietly headed the other direction) and I would not like to go one on one against a great white shark (which I think I have seen [at least what looked like a suspicious fin] while wading in the surf off the coast of the state of California and quickly got out of the water without stopping to verify for sure).
However, grizzly bears and great white sharks do not carry guns or make nuclear weapons. Some people hang around grizzly bears for fun and some people swim with great white sharks for fun. I am not making this up.
The second thing to understand is that adolescent humans — especially adolescent males — are — typically — the most dangerous humans. The school I taught at had guards patrolling the halls with portable radios who checked hall passes without smiling, inspected
Nobody killed me while I was teaching. In the three years I taught at Rainier Beach High School, Seattle, WA, USA
fifteen teachers were assaulted by students.
Three student on student assaults resulted in near fatal injuries.
I had a dangerous 15 year old drug dealer and gang leader arrested right out of my classroom.
I was a lot younger than, probably almost as bad as my students.
I came close to killing one of my students.
Don’t ask.
