Lucas Chae posted a sophisticated and closely reasoned attempt to find ways to prevent suicide.
I am 74 years old. About 20 years ago, I seriously considered suicide, but found other remedies. Thus I do not claim to have a sophisticated answer for anyone in this situation. Or anyone seeking ways to prevent this happening.
PLEASE READ LUCAS CHAE’S POST BEFORE YOU READ ANY MORE OF MINE.
I have read all the other responses. Please not that there are many opinion, many of which disagree with each other.
Please read all the responses before you read mine because I am going to post something that no one else has posted before.
As I am 74 years of age, and my father died at the age of 43, I have had to reluctantly confront my own mortality. Recently, a close friend of my daughter and granddaughter committed suicide at the age of 18. Nobody saw this coming.
Lucas’ post is very relevant and meaningful to me.
For example, I do not want to leave a mess. I am not want anyone to memorialize me like a silly pyramid built by the Egyptians thousands of years ago.

I have made my will. I have talked with my wife of 53 years, my daughter (only child), and my granddaughter. I have talked with my medical team about my final instructions for when I face a terminal illness.
IN THE MEANTIME I EXERCISE, TAKE MY MEDICATIONS, AND EAT A REASONABLY HEALTHFUL DIET. I AM NOT SUICIDAL.
Here is what I want to talk about. Only read this if you are 40 or younger.
I know I will die. All humans do.
Here, September 3, 2018, I think we have reached the century where our entire species is likely to commit suicide and go extinct.
