The problem, as I see it, is that we (Homo sapiens) are the only animals we awareness of our mortality. Nature consists of animals who eat animals. Can you imagine any other kind of planet or universe?

I live in a forest. It’s fairly peaceful. We have predators and prey. We have charming rabbits and squirrels and deer. We have owls (some very large) hawks, eagles and coyotes. They eat whatever they eat. They don’t think about it. If there were no predators the rabbits and squirrels and deer would overrun the environment and eat all the vegetation. Then their populations would crash. Everything dies, either by being eaten, or being ill, or by starving. It’s just nature.

Only humans think about it.

Take a look in the mirror, human

We are products of evolution. As there is no god, (finally dawning on us after thousands of years of self deception) we are confronting the two basic unintentional and deadly laws of evolution

Survive

Pass on genes

We have no serious predators. We grew up with lions and leopards in Africa as a species. Fewer and fewer lions and leopards left.

We know how to limit passing on genes, but as animals we are most fertile and least able to control our instincts we are young.

Now the time has come. All of us will die as individuals. Now we get a grip as a species or we become the first species in the history of our planet to drive itself extinct.
