Without experiencing the tone of the remainder of the talk, this doesn’t read like shaming to me. It only points out the likelihood that isolation from the intricacies, and reality of poverty, and/or persecution, would necessarily impede understanding.

Perhaps exposure to such a revelation is needed for any potential allies to appropriately respond, and those offended by the notion may simply need time to process, or would provide no aid in any case.
