26 January 2011; Rafael Nadal at Australian Open live press conference, having just been defeated by fellow Spaniad 7th seed David Ferrer.
The pain is etched on his face. But he doesn’t give in. It was a match that he was predicted to easily win, but his hamstring seemed to play up during the beginning stages of the game. He is audibly and visually distraught about his loss. It was clearly a game of the mind, and he certainly lost this one. Someone from the gallery asks him about his injury and what would be of him now. He looks up, almost inquisitively like he doesnt understand the question. In his mind there is no question as to his motives.
“I only want to look at the positives. I don’t want to talk about the injury.”
He says that Ferrer played a fantastic game, wishing him all the best. A true sense of class surrounds him. He says he cant complain about this temporary defeat, as he has to be grateful for the past year (earning no.1 seed).
“It’s part of the game, you have fantastic times and you have down times. You just have to keep moving forward.”
