This is an Article I wrote regarding the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Pact or TTIP for short. In the aftermath of the U.K. exit from the European Union (BREXIT), who will Britain turn to in relation to Trade and relations? With the EU insisting that the British divorce from the EU must be swift to prevent contagion, is Britain going to try and forge even stronger relations with the US and other countries, and will TTIP be the platform for this ? TTIP is a horrible and terrible trade deal for ordinary citizens, but especially those in Europe as part of the EU. with the erosion of working conditions, pay and standards that the EU have legislated for for the benefit and common good of its citizens at serious risk with a deal like this, the American standards in terms of food, sciences, work practices, data protection etc are often less stringent or effective or offer less protections to those laws in Europe. There’s a real danger that with the current controversy surrounding Brexit and the UKs decision to leave the EU, that a deal as damaging as this could be quietly imposed. Without a strong United British voice in the EU, Europe runs the very real risk of becoming increasingly irrelevant and impotent when it comes to negotiation of hugely significant trade deals in the future. The EU needs Britian. Not just as a powerful influential voice in the union, but for much more than that. As an important actor in any such negotiations with the US, whether on trade, immigration or defence, the loss of Britians voice and influence on the EU, will have significant ramifications for generations to come, and on the whole European project and ideal.
