Labor Rights
CIW stands for the Coalition of Immokalee workers a community organization composed of migrant workers from Mexico, Guatemala, & Haiti. These workers harvest tomatoes for large companies some include Walmart, Subway, Mcdonald’s, Wendy’s, and Taco Bell. For every 2 tons of tomatoes they harvest they only receive fifty dollars. Why would someone work under these conditions you may ask? These people do it with “Mucho Orgullo” meaning with pride as they have come to the land of opportunity in hopes that they will be able to better provide for their families. So what can consumers do to help further this coalition and help these workers attain the rights they deserve? Well we the consumers support these large corporations and that gives us the ability to demand higher wages for there workers. Let us eliminate the exploitation of U.S farm workers.
