Systems Based Thinking

Our Increasingly Complicated Lives

In the world of GTD, or “Getting Things Done,” if you are doing ‘improvisation’ on your work tasks, you are setting yourself up for failure.

In a startup, if you con’t consistently implement systems to GTD you are not capable of scaling the company.

In your life as well, if you aren’t making impulse decisions on simple tasks like, “What should I wear today?” or “What should I eat right now?” then you are in trouble.

I think, the only way for humanity to survive is to begin the massive re-education of every man, woman, and child to implement solid systems for their lives.

This could even go as far as installing HAL9000 type of computers in every persons home. This HAL companion would be able to ensure that the first 30 days of making a routine could not fail.

When you wake up, “Good morning, stretch out your legs, then go brush your teeth,” the amazing HAL would tell you.

“Don’t your teeth feel nice and clean? Now it’s time to drink a glass of water, then get your running shoes on.”

Imagine it, it’s not as scary as you might think.

What if every American had a system like this? What’s so dystopian about having a robotic friend helping you out?

I liken this system to the old mythical tale of the Centaur: half man, half animal. Well, half horse to be precise.

Humans, take part in the machine revolution! Automate the boring parts of your life. Do we really need to struggle with the problems of remembering what our morning routine should be?

Sometimes, we all could use a little help with our self-built systems.
