How to Get Rid Of Gnats in 3 Steps
My apartment recently had a gnat infestation but we took care of it using a systematic 3 step process.
- Find the source of the problem. This is the first step because it’s the most important one. You can do any of the other steps and they will only be temporary solutions. You will still have the same gnat problem. For us, it was some potatoes that were left to rot in a closet next to our kitchen. Find the source of your gnat problem and throw it out.
- Containment. No, we aren’t talking about a geo-political strategy used by the United States during the Cold War, we’re talking about buying apple cider vinegar and some Fly Sticks. Gnats absolutely adore apple cider vinegar. Put some in a high density location, put a little bit of dish soap in it to break the surface tension, and put a fly stick next to it and you’ve got a fly trap like no other. The key here is that the apple cider vinegar will attract the gnats to come to that region. All the gnats that don’t directly go into the vinegar will go on the fly stick and be trapped to die. This is an incredibly effective and passive method to kill as many gnats as possible.
- Hands, books, and napkins. Kill as many gnats as you can on your own. Although this requires some work, it’s useful to do if some get in your bedroom or bathroom. This is useful for if there are stragglers. However, if you have more than 10 gnats in one room at a time, the containment method is necessary to keep the situation under control.
If you still have gnat problems after a couple of days of doing these 3 steps, check to see if there is another source. Perhaps throwing out the rotten bananas wasn’t enough — perhaps your plant has fungus growing on it. Always be on the lookout for more than just one cause.
If this helped you fix your gnat problem, give it a ❤ and recommend it to friends facing the same issue.
