New: Pin Suggestions to the Top

Sometimes you want to draw people’s attention to a certain improvement to your product, be it proposed or already done. So in Feature Upvote, we’ve made it possible for you to ‘pin’ one suggestion to the top of your suggestion list. It shows at the top whether your customers are viewing “Top” suggestions or “New” suggestions.

A pinned suggestion

Why would you want to pin one suggestion? To get more attention from users. We can think of three reasons why you’d want certain suggestions to get more attention:

Inform users that an important suggestion is ‘done’

For marketing reasons or just to show off, you might want to indicate that a particular suggestion has been recently implemented. Pinning it for a few days gives your most active users the chance to see this.

Encourage customers to discuss a suggestion

The suggestions at the top of the list get more attention. A pinned suggestion, with its highlighted appearance, gets even more attention. By pinning a suggestion, you increase the chance that customers will comment on it. This is helpful when you want to get more feedback on a particular suggestion before deciding how best to implement it.

Get feedback on your own suggestion

Customer suggestions should be important to your future plans. However there will be improvements you want to add because they are part of your vision for your product, even though no customer has yet ask for them.

Posting your own suggestion then pinning it will encourage customers to comment on your idea. Hopefully they’ll tell you that your idea is brilliant. Maybe they’ll help you flesh out the idea by adding details you hadn’t thought of. Maybe you’ll get no comments even though it is pinned, in which case you might decide that it is not worth doing.

How does pinning work?

View your Feature Upvote live product page while signed in. Next to each suggestion, you’ll see a small “Pin this” button.

Click on “Pin this” and you are done. Any existing pinned suggestion will be “unpinned” and your newly-pinned suggestion will take its place at the top of your suggestion list.

Moderators see an “Unpin” button next to the unpinned suggestion. Click on “Unpin” and your suggestion list returns to normal order.
