Was 1984’s The Terminator a Harlan Ellison Rip-Off?
Ryan Britt

I’m gonna let Cameron sit this one out… but if I told you about a fictional plot where human consciousnesses exist within a simulated world created and maintained by a sentient global computer network… and the consciousnesses are aware of their captivity, experiencing torture by the program, and seeking to escape it or die trying… would I be talking about the film where “Mr. Anderson/NEO” is being interrogated by “Agent Smith”, then finds that he (NEO) suddenly has no mouth when he tries to scream… or would I be talking about the short story titled “I have no mouth, and I must scream” by the one and only Harlan Ellison?

Personally, I think the Wachovski Siblings are more than a little familiar with Ellison’s stories… but that’s just my opinion.
