Kate, this is a perfect response. It’s NOT about race but about the difference from accepted norms within a culture, as all ‘Isims' are! It’s very culturally dependant. Racism in North America is usually quoted with a foundation in slavery (as the author outlined). Then we talk about Muslim bias which has a similar foundation of ‘difference to OUR norm’.

However, when you really think about the slave trade from Africa, those in Western Africa we’re brought West, those in the East were taken to Muslim and Asian countries as slaves for those

countries. In fact, the Eastern slave trade lasted 50 years longer than the Western.

It’s not about White VS Black. It’s about bi-directional fear of differences and the lack of understanding those differences.
