“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

Benjamin Franklin

Quote for the day:

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

Benjamin Franklin

The other day I was reading an article by my online mentor Craig Ballantyne the editor of Early to Rise, founder of Turbulence Training and author of ‘The Perfect Day’ called The ‘Power of Doing This Daily’.

Craig talks about a book titled ‘Daily Rituals’, written by a young man named Mason Currey, chronicles the everyday routines of legendary literary artists, architects, and inventors as they struggled against the Resistance to their work.

Each of the great artists in his book had success rituals. Sure, they varied greatly. Some were eccentric artists that didn’t start working until 7 p.m. or even 10 p.m., and kept going until the wee hours of the morning or even until dawn the next day. Unfortunately, most of these bright lights burned themselves out far too early in life.

Musician’s and artists tend to lead a more nocturnal ritualised lifestyle, which might not be the healthiest way of living, but can be creatively very productive and lots of fun, but over the years it begins to take it’s toll.

Craig, his business partner Matt Smith and many other CEO’s, entrepeurneurs, sportsmen and yogis, have a more early morning ritual and they as do I feel there is something magical about the four o’clock hour.

They have found that if you get up early, when most people are sleeping you get more done and can get most of your best work done before anyone else has even got up out of bed.

Before I have had breakfast I will have meditated, written for a couple of hours and got on my yoga mat.

But to get up early you need to go to bed early, to ensure you get enough sleep to be healthy, wealthy and wise.

Today I had to get up an hour earlier than usual, because I am teaching a free community class this morning at 7am at BARREtoned in Notting Hill so last night I went to bed straight after watching Danny John-Jules and his son, a real chip off the old block in BBC 1’s ‘Death in Paradise’ to make sure I got enough sleep.

If you want to achieve more, then why not try waking up earlier, but make sure that if you get up half an hour earlier, you go to bed half an hour earlier to make up your sleep.

If you would like to take a FREE BARREtoned class with me tomorrow on Saturday 13th at 9:45 or Monday 15th at 13:15 Book Here
