“If you have only one smile in you give it to the people you love.”

Good morning peeps, meditation done.
Quote for the day:
“If you have only one smile in you give it to the people you love.”
Maya Angelou
It has taken me a couple of days to get my head round the fact that the diminutive musical genius called Prince is actually no longer with us on this planet and has joined MJ and the likes of Bowie up in that great concert in the sky.
How many other legends are we going to keep losing this year?
It really goes to show how precious and short life is and we must appreciate every minute we spend with our loved ones.
If the truth be told it was almost like Prince was never from this planet all along, such was his musical, singing and performing talent. I had the pleasure of meeting him and watching him preform many times. The most notable occasion was when I was performing with 2Unlimited in Monte Carlo at the World Music Awards.
After we did our sound check and rehearsals we ate backstage in the Hard Rock Cafe than we headed back to the hotel to get ready for a Prince concert he was doing in Monaco. The venue was small and I was stood just a few yards from the great man himself. Seeing him perform that close was an incredible experience, the man was a genius, his guitar ship, singing, performing, musicality he had the lot.
I started taking pictures to have a lasting memento of the occasion, but unfortunately this was not allowed and I had my camera taken away by a security guard who told me to pick it up from the door at the side of the stage after the show. I was annoyed, because there was no sign saying you could not take any pictures and I knew it was a pointless exercise trying to argue with Princes security team.
After the gig, I went to the door at the side of the stage to get my camera and to my surprise and great relief; I knew Prince’s head of security from when I had been on tour with Cliff Richards of all people. We were chatting and then unbelievably Prince came to the door and the security guy, forgive me but I cannot remember his name introduced me to Prince and told him that I was with 2Unlimited.
Prince said,
“Oh yeah that’s the group with that sexy girl in the Let The Beat Control Your Body video.”
I said yeah she’s over there, with that Prince stuck his head out the door and looked over at Clare and Anita and said he would like to meet them both and for me to come over to his hotel the next day with them. So the next day we went over to Prince’s hotel and called up to his room from reception, some of his body guards came down collected the girls but wouldn’t let me go up with them.
Obviously I was a bit concerned for the girls’ safety and told them to call down to reception at a set time to confirm they are all right. Anita and Clare were pretty streetwise and were not giggling groupies.
They called me to say they were safe came back down and told me the whole experience had been surreal and slightly amusing as Prince had spent the whole time lying on his bed sucking a purple lolly provocatively his petite body, drowned in a huge purple bed, in a room completely coloured and draped purple with candles burning everywhere.
To me that one night summed up the complexity and eccentricity of Prince’s whole being and existence perfectly.
As I said I cannot believe he is gone, but he will always be with us through his music, which will always make me smile, I feel numb, rather than sad as Prince is one of those people I can never imagine being old and not being slim and able to drop into splits and back up in a split second, with guitar in hand and purple platforms to hit a beautiful note with his astonishing falsetto voice.
Make sure you smile at your loved ones today, time and life is so precious and before you know it they are gone.
Have a super Saturday peeps and a wonderful weekend.
