WHO ARE YOU?

If someone ask YOU, who are You? What answer would you give? Some people might answer they are Doctors, others engineers, some teachers, some ministers, and some coaches. The list goes on, but has the question actually been answered? Maybe to some extent, but truly has the real you been explained? Yes, if that is all you know about you.

Do we honestly know who we are, what we enjoy, do we enjoy adventure, do we enjoy traveling? Again the list goes on.

It might be interesting for us to understand who we truly are before we decide if we do not enjoy being around some people. Maybe we have shut out people who make us feel uneasy because we do not want others to know, we don’t know who we are.

If you asked me who I am, I could give you my resume, and you may think he is or he is not an interesting person. My resume is only one part of who I am, and if that is all I know about me then maybe I have not understood who I am. Now most people are not asking for your life history when they ask who are you. Many just desire to know your likes or dislikes.

We are not complex individuals. I have met people who buried their husband or wife and would say, I never really knew him or her. Wow!!

Many have lost their identity because of hurts, unfulfilled expectations, guilt, shame, or fear of rejection. Many suffer from physical or mental abuse, some people suffer both types of abuses, and have changed who they are, thinking that would appease the abuser. You see, usually all that has happened is the one who gives up who he or she is to appease someone you cover more of who you are and what you enjoy.

Jesus came to give us Eternal Life and also the ability to enjoy this life on earth. God gave you desire, likes, dislikes, personality, statue, facial features, and the family you were born into. I understand some will say your personality is formed , likes and dislikes change over time. Well may I ask you are serious question? Did your personality change or did you change your personality to be accepted by others? Did your desires, likes or dislikes change to be accepted by others?

I am aware things change and we change with time, but if we change so people will accept us, we will always live in turmoil.

When you have the opportunity, ask yourself, who am I and what or who have I become? Jesus loves us and regardless what occupation we choose, that is only one part of who we are. You may say, I know that, but in reality twenty years ago, would we recognize who we have become today?
