Right there you’re lumping a bunch of people into a “group” according only to skin color — and then assigning some arbitrary character trait to 100% of those people. How is that any better at all than having someone say that all black people are criminals — or something equally insane?
I don’t ever do that. Why are you doing it? I have never oppressed anyone (regardless of skin color, gender identity, age or anything else for that matter) — I’m Mr Nice Guy. My wife and I have twin daughters (who happen to be white) — who each married fine young men (who happen to be black). We have a bunch of grandkids with every skin tone between the two. We see racism, we recognize it as a serious problem in this world, we deplore racism, we do not partake in racism.
Do you truly believe that not one single white-skinned person “gets it”? Really? Not a single one? You’re telling us that all the people in this group are somehow unable to recognize or otherwise work against racism just because of their skin color? Don’t you see how that’s every bit as racist as saying that all black people are…whatever?
I didn’t say “racism is over” — quite clearly it’s not. I certainly don’t believe that racism (in general) is “against me”.
What I do believe is that pretty much any statement of the form “All people with skin color X are Y” is a racist statement — and I refuse to make, or accept, or condone any such statements. Telling white people that they are all evil isn’t helping to solve the problem…it’s making matters worse.
I don’t know what the actual answer is here — but one step in the process has to be to stop using racial stereotypes *EVERYWHERE*.
You used one — that’s evil — you should retract it.
