In my opinion, it’s all a matter of police training. I wrote a piece about it a couple of days ago — and it’s clear that the 18 weeks it takes to train an American cop doesn’t fit with the 2–4 YEARS it takes to train a cop in Europe. A US cop does 8 hours of negotiation, 6 hours of ethics and 60 hours of gun training. Most other places spend vastly more time on the “soft-skills” side of policing…check out my findings:
