Memory athlete Simon Reinhard on the “almost magic” of the brain

The problem that I have with the method of loci is forgetting things again. If I remember a sequence of numbers or letters or whatever in familiar places, I can recall them just fine.

The trouble is that when I try to forget all that and remember something new, the objects along my memorized path aren’t easily replaced by the new things I need to recall.

Is there some kind of trick for this?
