60 Second Book Brief: The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan

“What’s the one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?” It’s a deceivingly simply but incredibly powerful question, and it comes in two parts.
“What’s the One Thing I can do” helps us focus on the most important things. We all know that 80 percent of our results come from 20 percent of our actions, but we don’t always act as though that’s the case.
“Such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary”, is where the magic comes in. Not only are we to focus on activities that create the most results, they need to help us create results tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that.
If you want to live the life you’ve always dreamed of, you need to be very clear on what this One Thing is for the day, and you need to get it done early — before your plans for the day inevitably fall apart because you are putting out fires.
Then, to take things to the next level, set out your One Thing for the next 5 years, one year, one month, and one week. Remember to review this constantly during the week.
So there you have it. The One Thing in 60 Seconds.
