Joe Pulizzi is the CEO of the Content Marketing Institute, and has written the book Content Inc. in order to help you grow you business through content marketing.
First, you need to find your Sweet Spot. It’s either the intersection of a knowledge and passion, or knowledge and customer pain points.
Second, you need a Content Tilt by creating better and more engaging content than what’s already out there today. It simply needs to be the best content option in your niche.
Third, you need to build your base by deciding which platforms you are going to use (like Wordpress, for instance), and creating a consistent publishing schedule. Make sure you are repurposing your content for different mediums.
Fourth, you need to harvest your audience by getting them to subscribe after they consume your content. Email is still by far the most important channel here, followed closely by your social networking accounts. Consider finding other media channels to syndicate your content, and connect with influencers in your space to share your content with their audiences.
Last but certainly not least, you need a content monetization strategy, or this was all for not.
