Q. How do you know someone is too uninformed to have an opinion on Trump?

A. They use the word “treason.”

Treason is very narrowly defined in the Constitution. “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.” (Art. 3, Sec. 3)

We’re not at war with Russia. I suppose we could try Trump for treason and thereby declare Russia an “enemy.” That would probably have some very serious and ugly diplomatic fallout. There may be tons of other laws being violated, but treason ain’t one of them.

You could make a far stronger case that the anti-war activists of the Sixties committed treason, since they really did attempt to obstruct our waging an actual war. And there is no statute of limitations on treason.
