The two great justifications for mass violence in the past were religion and the State, often conflated. Since Robespierre, another has emerged: Social Justice. The Reign of Terror, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, even Hitler early on, all couched their rhetoric in terms of social justice. Solzhenitsyn, in The Gulag Archipelago, showed that the Gulag dwarfed the death toll of the Inquisition.
The “Rape Culture,” at its outer limits*, merges with a school of thought that seems to believe that if they can ban beauty contests, Playboy and porn, they can create a world where men are no longer interested in sex, or at least no longer adhere to the canons of beauty our culture rewards. The first objective is flatly doomed to failure by biology; the second may achieve some success, since standards of beauty are very culture dependent.
I see a resonance with the meme that soon, whites will be a minority in America. The subtext seems to be that when whites are no longer dominant, we will also see the end of expectations for achievement, hard work, punctuality, academic excellence, and all those other “white male” concepts. Maybe. There are societies that don’t have them. They’re called “impoverished.” In both cases, the underlying theme seems to be “if the world changes, I won’t have to.”
*America once took rape extremely seriously. The Supreme Court ended that with Coker v. Georgia (1977). Don’t you dare talk to me about treating rape seriously if you’re willing to allow that ruling to stand.
