Political Couch Potatoes, We Must Rise Up! Now-ish!
Allan Ishac

True story. I was at Columbia University in the wake of the Kent State affair. There are two libraries at opposite ends of the quad: Butler is the actual library and Low is the former library, now administration building. So some guy is haranguing a small crowd and finally yells “Let’s go liberate Low Library! Immediately there was a loud clomping and a phalanx of NYPD cops lined up shoulder to shoulder at the top of the stairs. So, Robespierre climbs a couple of steps higher, turns and says “WELL, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?” The revolutionaries decided to go down to Butler Library and smash windows instead. One, having been replaced with plastic, took several bricks — I could see the reflections of the streetlights bouncing — and finally someone yelled “Let it live!” I concluded The Revolution would be a while in coming.

One thing that puzzles me is why it was all right for the Left to talk about revolution then but not for the Right to talk about it now.
